Five Core Services

As an Independent Living Center, we are proud to offer the Five Core Services established by the National Council on Independent Living:


Systems advocacy involves public education and consultation for Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance. Individual advocacy empowers consumers of all ages to take charge of their life choices and remove barriers to independence.

Information and Referral

Current information about resources throughout our service area is provided to poeple with disabilities. We connect consumers with other service agencies and organizations .

Transition Services

Our focus is to assist all clients that desire to live independently in community-based living. This includes young individuals transitioning to post secondary education living as well as those individuals living in congregate care.

Peer Support

Staff, consumers and volunteers with disabilities serve as role models; providing support for informed decision making.

Independent Living Skills

Poeple with disbilities are assisted with skills development for critical daily living needs.

Classes and training

Center Toward Self-Reliance provides classes and training in the following areas:

  • Janitorial and Professional Yard Care
  • Training on Assistive Technology 
  • Personal Development 
  • Interpersonal Communication 
  • Pre-Employment
